Melisa Miranda was recently a Research Fellow at ESALA, Edinburgh School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, University of Edinburgh and a Course organiser at EGIS, The Urban Institute, School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society, Heriot-Watt University. She is an Architect with an Ma in Architecture from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and an MPhil in Landscape Architecture at Edinburgh University. Her research interests focus on interdisciplinary perspectives for urban and rural development processes. Her theoretic background stands on urban development, smart cities, cultural landscapes, cultural mapping and community development. Her work experience consists in participatory urban design processes within research projects and consulting services for governmental institutions in tasks of community engaging, participation, city design, cultural heritage and territorial planning. She has been involved in plotting data on historic assets such as national monuments, renovation of urban spaces applying PNUD (UN) guidelines, among other studies. Currently Melisa is a Research Associate at Edinburgh Future Institute and Edinburgh Living Lab, for the project 'The cultures and the community mapping project’ based in Edinburgh and just finished her participation as a Research Fellow at a Smart cities and climate change research project at ESALA. Finally, her PHD research consist in exploring linguistic landscapes in rural and urban contexts as multi-fields for dynamic communities, exploring issues regarding place making, identity, heritage and power relations within public spaces.
